Black Hoof Park is a great candidate for an outdoor wedding reception space. It is a place that we recommend booking if you’re into nature and are fond of a variety of wildlife. Of course, you won’t see bears or any dangerous animals running around, but you will most likely see the typical squirrel fleeing towards a tree.
This beautiful outdoor space has a 231-acre park that features a 35-acre deep-water lake with a dam and a spillway. And some super fun playgrounds and play areas for children to enjoy. It also has various trails through open grass and wooded areas.
Black Hoof Park offers two shelters, Oak Shelter and Stone Wall Shelter, that are available on a first-come first-served basis. To rent the desired shelter you must go in person to the Lenexa REC center, at the Parks and Recreation desk which is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday.
They rent the shelters in three different time blocks which are half-day from 8am to 2pm, half-day from 3pm to 9pm, or a full day from 8am to 9pm. Rates can range from $50 to $400, depending on the shelter you decide to rent, the time block you want, and whether you have the Lenexa resident discount or not. The discount rate for Oak Shelter is at 25%, while Stone Wall Shelter is at about 33%. You can qualify for the Lenexa resident discount rate if you bring your photo ID and a utility bill in your name at the time that you rent the shelter.
The shelter’s amenities include a cement pad, a deck area, tables, grills, and a fire pit. The playgrounds, restrooms, open areas, courts, and parking lots will remain open for all park guests. Sharing is caring, okay? Black Hoof Park has other policies that we recommend you read in case you would like to give this park a go.
Oak Shelter is 68’x80’ with a capacity of up to 250 seated guests and is located on the northwest side of the park. This shelter provides 20 tables, electricity, lights, six grills, a fire pit, and restrooms. Play areas are near this shelter for kids to enjoy as well.
Stone Wall Shelter is 20’x30’ with a capacity of up to 55 seated guests and is located on the southwest side of the park near a boat ramp. This shelter provides eight tables, electricity, lights, one grill, restrooms, and play areas as well. The playground near this shelter offers a stunning view of Lake Lenexa.
